Why Intelligent People Fail To Find Happiness

intelligent, unhappy, emotional

Ernest Hemingway once said that 'Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know'. His statement paints a rather bleak view of the human condition of people with above average intelligence. There are many reasons that fuel the sadness of intelligent people are these factors brought by their nature or in the condition they are forced to live in?

It is a well-known fact that most intelligent people tend to over analyze things and a strange affinity on pessimism. However, this only affects intelligent people in the creative fields(literature, filming, art, music etc). People in scientific fields tend to care less about emotions and more absorbed by the theories and experiments ahead of them.

Another factor is that intelligent people have fewer friends than average people. Having few friends lead to near isolation. Apart from fewer friends, intelligent people struggle with finding love.

All these factors would make us believe that 'ignorance is bliss'. Intelligent people may have learned and read a lot, but these activities only opened their eyes to the absurdity of the world. The best solution to the unhappiness of intelligent people is: more communication among peers or having fun on little things.
