Woman Dumps Boyfriend And Leaves Job To Travel Across US With Her Dog

A 24-year-old woman decided to leave her mundane, 9-5 life behind and purchase a van for her and her dog to travel across the United States of America in.

Sydney Ferbrache, who hails from Indiana originally, was inspired to start a new life after seeing another young woman posting pictures of herself doing the exact same thing on Instagram.

The images completely changed Ferbrache’s life, and she decided to quit her job and travel with her then-boyfriend across the States. Sydney herself says that the picture she saw; “….took me down this black tunnel hole of van life”.

The couple decided to go for it and they began by buying a $18,000 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and invested thousands into making it a suitable home for their long journeys.

Ferbrache and her boyfriend began travelling in September 2017, but the pair soon realised that they were no-longer a good match and decided to go their separate ways.

Sydney believed that she was capable of going at 100mph, but that she was with someone who only wanted to go as fast as 50mph. This resulted in Sydney deciding to continue her travelling alone and letting her ex keep their shared van.

Whilst buying another van on her own seemed an impossible task, Sydney worked three jobs and side gigs in order to save the money to buy a new van for herself. She even launched her own website about ‘van-life’.

Eventually, Ferbrache was able to buy a $24,000 Ford Transit van in May 2018 and renovated it with a full kitchen and a king size bed.

Just one final touch was needed – Ella the dog, whom Ferbrache adopted just one week before hitting the open road.

Recalling her first few days on the road, Sydney said:
It was the most freeing. I truly felt like such a bad*ss. I made this happen, I cannot believe I actually made this happen.
It was such a cool feeling of ‘I’m driving my home around the country.’

Ferbrache and Ella have now been to 20 states in total but she does return home every couple of months to spend some quality time with her family and young nephew.

She documents all of her travels on her online blog, Divine on the Road.

Speaking about being on the road she said:
‘I’ve never woken up once in the last year and not felt like this isn’t exactly what I should be doing. I don’t foresee anywhere in the near future where I want to stop, but I also don’t want to hold myself to this idea that I have to be on the road.’
I really believe society has instilled in us that we should be fearful of the world and that we should have a man by our side to see things. We are taught to be scared, we don’t feel that way innately.
I like to prove in the way I do things that that’s not how we have to live our lives.’
Ferbrache now plan on making it to Alaska by next year and with Ella for company, it’s bound to be an exciting trip.
