Three Brothers Let A Black Widow Spider Bite Them To Get Superpowers

 Black Widow Spider

Three brothers made the mistake of letting a black widow spider bite them so they could gain superpowers, but as you may have suspected, it didn’t work.

You always hear people worry that children will emulate what they’ve seen on TV, films or games, but you rarely ever actually see any end product. For the most part, kids know not to play with chainsaws, steal some cars or be a Batman, but of course there are exceptions to the rule.

Three children in Chayanta, Bolivia, were hospitalised after they let a highly venomous black widow spider bite them, in the hope that they would gain superpowers, much like Marvel’s Spider-Man.

As the boys – aged eight, ten and twelve – were looking over their family’s sheep, they noticed the spider and got to plotting. Their mother was around, but rather unluckily she was collecting wood when her sons found the spider.

As news reports stated, the brothers prodded the spider with a stick until it became irate and started to lash out, biting them all. After that, the three started suffering from the usual symptoms, such as muscle pain, stomach cramps, spasms and an increased heart rate.

When their mother returned, she found the boys crying and writhing in pain, leading to her speeding them to Chayanta health centre as fast as she could. The brothers were given medicine, but their conditions worsened.

After that, they were eventually taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred to a specialist children’s hospital in the capital. The incident became pretty high-profile, with the Head of Epidemiology of the Health Ministry, Virgilio Pietro, weighing in, saying the boys were suffering from muscle pains, sweating, fever, and generalised trembling.

Eventually the boys were given serums and their conditions improved and they were discharged from hospital five days later.

Pietro mentioned the case during a press conference, where he voiced his concerns for the suggestibility of children and warned their parents:

“For children everything is real, films are real, dreams could be real, and they (children) are the hope of our life“.
Don’t let things bite you, people.
